KEYBOARD


What is a keyboard?
The set of typewriter like keys that enables you to enter data into a computer. Computer keyboards are similar to electric-typewriter keyboards but contain additional keys. The keys on computer keyboards are often classified as follows:

1)      Alphabetical

2)      Numerical

3)      Special characters

4)      Function keys

The keyboard generally consists of 83-114 keys. The first keyboard have 83 keys and later on keyboards are produced with 84 keys, 101 keys, 104 keys, 110 keys and the latest keyboard consists of 114 keys. It has become easy to operate the computer easily even without the mouse nowadays.

         The keyboard consists of three transparent sheets which look like finely cut thick polyethene covers with connected circuits on them.

1)      The first sheet consists of alphabetical small letters, special characters, numerical keys

2)      The second sheet is called the dummy sheet. This sheet just creates a gap between the other two sheets and this sheet completely consists of holes in it.

3)      This sheet consists of upper case alphabetical and functional keys.

Connectors:
The keyboard has 4 wires each wire of different color:-
1)      White - ground connection
2)      Green – clock settings
3)      Red – power
4)      Yellow – data transfer
Types of connectors:
1)      DIN connector
2)      Ps/2 connector
3)      USB connectors
Din connectors:
These connectors were used in previous days. These were used in P1,P2,P3 mother boards. It is a big size connector with 5 bold pins in it these connectors are generally in white or blue color.

PS/2 connectors:
These pins are used in the P3, previous generations of P4 mother boards and are used even nowadays. It is a mini size DIN connector with six delicates pins in it.

USB connectors:
These are universal serial bus connectors these are used in the latest computers these are rectangular shaped connectors with golden strips in them.
